Andy Into Cincy Finals!

Andy was the King of the Night tonight as Patrick McEnroe gave him that title after his win over Murray and again over Chile’s Fernando Gonzalez, or “Gonzo,” 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and seven minutes. Gonzalez?s weapons coming into tonight match were his big forehand on the run and his aggressiveness, but they weren?t enough to withstand the American Firepower tonight in Cincinnati to play in the finals against Spain?s Juan Carlos Ferrero tomorrow at 1pm EST.

“I felt the key to the match was whoever got on the aggressive early in the points, because we can both fire the ball a little bit, but I wanted to make him resort to defense as opposed to offense. I felt like I did that pretty well tonight,” said Roddick.

Gonzalez opened the match on serve, but Andy quickly earned a triple break point and converted a point later to take an immediate lead, letting out an intimidating “Yes, Come on!” Though Gonzalez challenged back on Andy?s first service game with a break point, Andy held strong to seal the lead at 2-0. Gonzalez played aggressively though showing little heart on court, and Andy saw that sign of weakness and pushed to break the Chilean one more time to take the set, 6-3.

The second set was close for the first few service games until Andy took away any and all offense Gonzalez may have had by volleying superbly, sending some fireball forehands cross-court, and putting his whole body into some down-the-line whipping backhands. Andy continued his offense to earn another triple break point and won the lead at 5-3 to serve for the match. Totaling 12 aces and 91 percent on his first service points, Andy sailed into the finals.

Andy now stands to surpass Gonzalez?s first place standing in the US Open Series, and could win both the Series and his first title of the year if he claims the title tomorrow over Juan Carlos Ferrero in the battle of the former number one?s. Andy?s deadly serves, aggressive offense, and unpredictable shots are going to put a lot of pressure on Ferrero tomorrow, hopefully too much for the Spaniard to withstand. Stay tuned to AR.com for a match preview of the Finals in the Cincinnati AMS tournament, Andy?s last stop before the US Open. Go Andy!
