Andy Roddick eased past Kristof Vliegen of Belgium last night 6-2, 6-3.
After the match, Andy commented:
“I hit the ball pretty well and served well from start to finish,” said Roddick, who reached his second quarterfinal of the season. “I was controlling the rallies.”
In the next round, Andy will face the rising star of Sweden, Joachim Johansson, in perhaps a preview of the Davis Cup quarter-final. Andy has never played Johansson before in an ATP event.
Andy and Joachim Johansson grew up through the juniors together, and reached the final of the junior French Open doubles in 2000. In speaking about Johansson’s recent success, Andy said:
“I knew it was a matter of time before he came through with some wins,”
The match is scheduled to be played on Friday, fourth on centre court, following an 11.00am start (local time).
