On Monday, Andy was officially sworn into the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Andy met up with Executive Director Melissa Johnson, to discuss his role and responsibility on the Council.
Shortly after arriving at the Hubert H. Humphrey Building in Washington D.C, Andy was sworn in by Secretary Leavitt and took an official portrait for the Council. Following the ceremony, Andy received a proclamation, Presidential cuff links, a pin, t-shirt and original coin with the President’s seal.
After being appointed in early May, Andy reflected on the privilege of being asked to participating on the Council. “It’s a great honor to be recognized in this way. When I was in school, I actually won the Presidential Fitness Award, and it was something I was always proud of. I hope kids look at this and know how important it is to be active and get exercise. Tennis is a great way to have a lot of fun and be healthy.”
Other athletes invited to serve two-year terms on the Council include 1984 Olympic women’s gymnastic Gold Medal winner Mary Lou Retton and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.
