Injury Update From Andy

After having to withdraw from the Countrywide Classic before his Quarterfinal match yesterday, Andy shared his frustrations and updated ar.com on his condition.

“You always want to finish a tournament on your terms and not pull out with an injury. It’s disappointing, but I need to really look at the big picture,” Andy suffered a left side muscle strain late in the third set of his second round victory over Scott Oudsema.

“It’s improved, but Thursday night I had trouble taking my socks off after the match. I literally couldn’t bend over at all. There’s improvement, but certainly not enough to even consider playing,” Andy explained the pain was too intolerable to compete in Friday night’s Quarterfinal match against Dmitry Tursunov.

Andy will next travel to Washington D.C for the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. He is optimistic that he will be able to play his first round match on Wednesday.

“I hope so. At this point it’s guarded optimism, that’s for sure. I’d be hopeful, but nothing more than that at this point.”
