Redemption For Roddick: On To Semis!

This afternoon, Andy Roddick got his redemption over Luxemburg’s Giles Muller in two straight sets, breaking his serve four times to take home the “W” 6-2, 6-3.

Last year after Andy’s loss the Muller in the first round, he stated that he felt like throughout that match he was “trying to find something as opposed to just having it,” and that he “usual takes controls more than he did.” Well, this time Andy hopped in the driver’s seat of this match and saw nothing but dust in his rear view mirror where Muller may have been.

In the first few games, Andy blasted a 145 mph rocket, converted two break points to take a demanding lead, and then sealed the fate of the set with an ace, 6-2. Muller tried to push back in his opening game by serving a 127 mph ace, but it didn’t faze the former number one as Andy broke Muller’s next service game. Andy set himself up for the win by taking a 5-3 lead, knowing he’d have to shift it into high gear to break Muller for the win. The last game went from Deuce to Advantage- Roddick three times before Muller’s error signed, sealed, and delivered Andy’s redemption along with his ticket into the semifinals.

One huge difference from their last meeting was that the statistics were pretty even on both sides, but this time Andy utilized last week’s hard core training to dominate the board. Andy had nearly twice the first serve percentage at 79% over Muller who got 47%, and doubled-and-then-some the second serve percentage at 84% while Muller was at 37%. Muller must have been feeling the pressure of Andy’s intensity and double-faulted seven times.

Both on screen and on paper, Andy Roddick ruled this game and earned himself a semifinal match against the RCA 2005 Champion Robby Ginepri. Stayed tuned for a semifinal match preview and more Andy in Indy. Go Andy!
