Morrison Third Round Test for Andy

After successfully brushing aside Delgado in the second round, Andy will continue his Indy assault with a third round clash against fellow American Jeff Morrison. Morrison made it through to Thursday’s match with wins over Santiago Gonzalez and Kevin Kim, the number 13 seed.

Morrison, 27, had only won one match on the ATP circuit this season before playing in the RCA Championships. That win came in Indian Wells earlier this year. The rest of his time has been spent on the Challenger circuit where he has had limited success. His best result came in Joplin in February where he reached the semi finals. Before this third round run this year, Morrison had only ever reached the second round in Indianapolis; that was in 2004.

Here are Morrison’s stats from the ATP site:

Birthdate:4-Feb-79
Birthplace:Huntington, West Virginia, USA
Residence:Tampa/White Sulpher Springs,WV
Height:6’1’’ (185 cm)
Weight:160 lbs (72 kg)
Plays:Right-handed
Turned Pro:2000
Coach:Steve DeVries
Current INDESIT ATP Ranking – Singles:183
Career High INDESIT ATP Ranking – Singles:85 (7/8/2002)
Current Stanford ATP Doubles Ranking:135
Career High Stanford ATP Doubles Ranking:81 (8/19/2002)

Enjoying his best run of form in 2006 will clearly give Morrison confidence. However, playing Andy will not. The two have met twice before on the ATP circuit with Andy winning both encounters in 2003 and 2004. The match will be played at 7pm on Thursday evening. Good Luck, Andy!
