Andy and Bobby Reynolds did more than hold their own against doubles specialists Stephen Huss and Tripp Phillips, with a 6-4, 6-3 quarterfinal victory this evening at the RCA Championships.
A closely contested first set saw both teams holding steady in the until Andy and Bobby broke at 5-4 to take the first set 6-4. With the ‘big mo’ on their side, the duo steamrolled into the second on serve with a quick 1-0. In a similar fashion, both teams held early in the second, but Andy and Bobby capitalized with a break at 4-3, earning a chance to serve for the match. Andy and Bobby converted their first match point, upsetting Huss and Phillips 6-4, 6-3 in a little over an hour.
The Americans convincingly out aced their opponents 8 to 1 and with little tolerance for error, neither Andy nor Bobby double faulted once. The win sets up a semi-final showdown with the top seeds Paul Hanley and Kevin Ullyett.
