Roddick wins easily at RCA

Indianapolis (dpa) - Two-time champion Andy Roddick spent just an hour in carving up Paraguay’s Ramon Delgado 6-3, 6-2 Tuesday to kick-start his pre-USOpen campaign with a win at the RCA Championships.

No 8 seed Paradorn Srichaphan, who got a first-round bye, opens his tournament against qualifier Wayne Arthurs of Australia tonight (Thailand time).

The American second seed who lifted the title in 2003 and 2004 polished his record at the event to 13-1/

Roddick, who fired over eight aces including one on match point, lost just 13 points on serve to reach the third round after a bye.

Roddick spent last week training under the close eye of tennis icon Jimmy Connors as one generation of American tennis helped another.

“I’m honored that he took the time to spend with me,” said Roddick, whose 11th ranking is his lowest in nearly four years.

Roddick said that he comes back to the game after a third-round disappointment at Wimbledon ready to take a serious shot at regain his position.

“I feel really motivated, I can’t wait to get out there and play,” he said. “I played solid throughout, I wasn’t defensive at all. I accomplished a lot of things that I wanted to.”
