As the sun was setting, Andy Roddick received a standing ovation as he came on
to Court Two at 7.40pm on Thursday evening. Keen to place himself in the third
round, Andy raced through the match, out-classing his opponent in one hour and
eight minutes, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

Andy’s serving was impeccable all evening as he regularly served over 140MPH.
Firing on all cylinders, Andy was relaxed on court hitting some penetrating
groundstrokes. Andy even found time in the first set to offer help to a lady
with carrying her purchases along the front row.

At 4-4 in the first set, Andy held to love with another sensational Roddick
one-two, a serve followed by a cracking forehand winner. In less than half an
hour, Andy claimed the first set at 5-4 with a forehand pass cross court. Andy
was very pysched up for the match and a huge ‘Come On’, showed his delight with
a one set lead and his eagerness to finish the match this evening.

Andy’s return game was very positive throughout the match and some more
threatening forehands saw him take an early break in the second set. At times
on Thursday evening it looked as though Andy couldn’t miss, and a smash
followed by a drop volley consolidated his break. At 4-1 Andy pushed for a
second break and advanced to the net, forcing the German into errors. Serving
out the second set, a second serve ace down the T, helped Andy secure a two
sets to love lead in just 49 minutes.

Andy’s movement and commitment to run down every shot helped ensure him a
crucial break in the third set. Andy claimed a second break with some confident
volleying and at 5-2 Andy unleashed another second serve ace to wrap up a place
in Saturday’s third round.
