June is always the months of Slams, bouncing from one historical city to the next, and changing court surfaces. From the French Open in Paris to Queen’s Club and Wimbledon in London, Andy’s first week of June is transition time. This week in Andy history is filled with practice, practice, and more practice on his favorite surface - grass.
Andy spends this week switching from playing on clay to grass and preparing for Queen’s Club, which he is the triple consecutive champion of and where he also hit a record-breaking serve on match point. On the opening day at the Stella Artois Championships in 2004, Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi teamed up and took down Robby Ginepri and Mark Merklein 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of doubles. Although this American duo didn’t win the title, Andy surpassed a childhood dream of not only playing on the same court as Agassi but being on the same team as him.
This year, Andy is spending the week lightly practicing while healing his ankle in preparation to defend his title next week at Stella Artois.
Stay tuned for next week in Andy history and more from London!
