Andy’s Parisian Picks

A city known for indulging the pallet, Paris has a plethora of restaurants for Team Roddick to explore. Moving on from Schnitzel in Düsseldorf, Andy has taken to traditional French cuisine.

What Forbes Magazine touts as the “hippest” hotel in town is also home to one of Andy’s recommended Parisian eateries. The Hotel Costes restaurant serves eclectic French
Cuisine Featuring the freshest local seafood, produce and other regional specialties. Furnished with deep red decor and low lighting, Hotel Costes is a welcomed retreat after a long day on the courts. Time European Magazine raves “The food is always dependable, never risky or flashy or attention-getting.”

Although the food may not be flashy, the restaurant’s regulars certainly garner attention. “The restaurant that sprawls over most of the Hôtel Costes’ lobby on Rue St.-Honoré is where you eat if you’re French and you’re famous, period. Yves Saint Laurent dines in the atrium twice a week. Isabelle Adjani, Catherine Deneuve and Johnny Hallyday are regulars. So are John Malkovich and Johnny Depp,” notes Time European Magazine.

Part of the Costes Brothers empire, Hotel Costes in only one of 40 hotels, cafés and restaurants that belong either directly to the Jean-Louis and Gilbert Costes, members of their extended family or employees.

“Every meal starts when a man asks a woman, ‘Chérie, where do you want to eat tonight?’” says Jean-Louis. “Our cuisine is designed for women,” which means the portions are small, no fattening sauces and no “plat du jour.”
