This week in Andy history plays into making history, as well as creating it with a few “first”’s. From first stepping foot on German “red soil” to being selected as the leading male tennis player for the 2004 summer Olympics in Athens, this middle week in May has been a good one for Andy throughout the last few years.

The first time Andy played Hamburg in 2002, he played both doubles and singles. In his first singles match, Andy began with a bang when he defeated Todd Martin even though he was knocked out in the third round. Andy partnered up with tennis’ magician Italy’s Fabrice Santoro for doubles, but the third set tie break didn’t go in their favor. After Andy’s exit in Hamburg, he flew to Dusseldorf for his first World Team Tennis preview.

As for making history, Andy was chosen by Captain Patrick McEnroe to lead the men’s American tennis into the 2004 Olympics. The announcement also came out that the 2004 Davis Cup tie again Belarus would be held in Charleston, South Carolina, where Andy would make history for firing his fastest serve ever as well as breaking the world record yet again at 155mph.
