Andy, James and the Bryan Brothers are moving their Davis Cup celebration to Houston’s Westside Tennis Club this week as all four are competing in the U.S Men’s Clay Court Championships. Keeping in the patriotic theme, the U.S Men’s Clay Court Championships is the second oldest USTA tournament in the country’s history (the oldest being the U.S Open). The tournament may be an oldie, but the excitement is always new when the tour’s young guns launch the clay court season.
Andy and Houston share a successful history. Andy has appeared in the Championship’s finals all 5 times the tournament has been played in Houston. He took the title in 2001, 2002, and 2005. Andy holds the Championships in high regard. Legendary Tournament Director Jim McIngvale and his wife Linda share Andy’s excitement.
“We love Andy here,” Linda told Ar.com this weekend. “Andy’s going to win this tournament and become number one again,” Linda predicted. Andy is a crowd favorite in Houston and the McIngvales look forward to a special week. “The crowd loves Andy, they’re a part of his wins and history at this tournament.” Hopefully this week will produce another great event for both Andy and Houston.
Andy will start his title defense Tuesday against Paul Capdeville.
