March 2006 Fan of the Month

Congratulations Joseph Taranto, you are Andy Roddick’s March Fan of the Month!

Thanks to Joseph’s mum for sending in this great entry about how Andy has played such an inspirational role in her son’s life:

I just want to say thank you to Andy Roddick for the positive impact he has had on my son. My son, Joseph, started playing tennis about two years ago, he is 16 now and having Andy as his mentor has been so rewarding. Joseph has had a hard life and has not seen his dad in many years, so as a single Mom having a male role model like Andy for Joseph was perfect. He has done well in tennis and this has kept him out of trouble.

One whole side of his room is like a museum of Andy - no exaggeration! There are probably about 200 pictures all over the walls. He wears nothing but Lacoste and Babalot sneakers and of course uses Babalot racquet. Every where in his room is Andy. For his 16th birthday I got tickets to the US Open where he was so excited to see Andy, I also had to go to Macy’s in NY with the opening of Lacoste.

My son knows everything someone asks about Andy or Babalot. Even when he is on the courts playing they say the Kid that looks like Roddick, amazing but true. He watches all the matches possible and has purchased old videos of tennis matches. If Andy is on all know where Joseph can be found.

We tried to get his autograph at the Open but could not, so for Christmas I spent $275 for an 8×10 autographed picture. My son is definitely a candidate for Fan of the Month, He eats, sleeps and dreams Roddick he even contributed to the Roddick foundation. I am very thankful and want Andy Roddick to know the positive impact he has made on my son and the tough times he has silently helped him through. I think my son would love to be Fan of the Month, to him it would be a great honor. Thanks for your time, I feel like I live with Mini-me Andy!!
