Roddick vs. Verdasco… Again

For the second time in as many weeks, Andy finds himself up against a familiar foe in his third round match at Miami: Fernando Verdasco. Meeting at Indian Wells, and coincidentally at the Nasdaq-100 Open last year, these two have had some impressive matches when pitched against each other.

Verdasco has a stunning forehand to match Andy’s, and their last match at Indian Wells saw sensational winners from both players. After his win over the Spaniard there, Andy noted the strengths of his opponent:

“He’s a great player. As far as just forehands and backhands go, he
hits the ball as well as anybody. The way he gets the ball to jump off the court.”

Andy currently has the edge over Verdasco in their head to heads, and on paper, has dominated their hard court battles. Andy will be getting fired up for this match, as he commented in Indian Wells,

“He’s always tough. We’ve had some real battles before”

Here are some stats on Verdasco, courtesy of the ATP:
Birthdate: 15-Nov-83
Birthplace: Madrid, Spain
Residence: Madrid, Spain
Height: 6’2’’ (187 cm)
Weight: 179 lbs (81 kg)
Plays: Left-handed
Turned Pro: 2001
Career High INDESIT ATP Ranking – Singles: 30 (1/16/2006)
Career High Stanford ATP Doubles Ranking: 67 (4/25/2005)

The match is scheduled to be third on Stadium Court on Monday, with play for the day beginning at 11.00am ET. Andy is also in doubles action, and his second round match with Robby Ginepri will feature later in the day on Court 1.
