February’s Fan of the Month

We have received heaps of entries from fans bidding to be February’s Fan of the Month and it has been our great pleasure to read about all of Andy’s terrific fans! After much deliberation we have decided that Marianne Jenks will be AndyRoddick.com’s inaugural Fan of the Month. Well done to Marianne! Here is her winning entry:

“I have been a fan of Andy’s since I saw him on TV against Lleyton Hewitt at the French Open in 2001. I went to see him in August of 2001 in Cincinnati; he lost first round against Guga, who he had just beaten the week before in Canada. Andy hurt his foot in that match and lost but I was already hooked. He could walk all around Cincy tourney that year as not many knew about him. I now have seen Andy play 56 matches, with a record of 47-9 so like to think I am his good look charm, lol.

I LOVE the Davis Cup atmosphere and was lucky enough to be in Belgium last September when our boy Andy really laid it all out there; he left nothing on the court that day against O. Rochus, he used every bit of his energy, his passion, his heart and his guts to win that match against screaming Belgian fans. I was so proud of him and so proud to be an Andy Roddick fan.

I was in La Jolla recently and had to watch Andy puke in person, not a pretty sight, lol. But he showed his heart and guts, like he did in Belgium, stayed out there for five sets then came back to win deciding match on Sunday. I will be in Indianapolis and in Cincinnati and I will not miss a Davis Cup tie, either in USA, or otherwise, as long as Andy is playing.

I sent a picture that a friend of mine, Tonya Mains, had taken with Andy at the WTT in St. Louis this year, to his Charity Foundation, along with a donation, asking that he autograph and return it as a Christmas gift for my friend. I got the pic back with an autograph and a short note to Tonya!!!! Andy Roddick really cares about his fans and for as long as he plays I will go to as many tournaments as I can manage.

I am a 68 year old widow who enjoys watching pro tennis matches; however going to watch Andy in the Cincy tourney in 2001 was the first time I ever paid any money to go to a tourney and after seeing him in person I WAS HOOKED!! After seeing Andy in Cincy in 2001 I decided to hit the tourney trail. Have made many friends and have had a great time travelling to tourneys and snapping MANY pics of Andy along the way. So a big thanks to Andy for helping me get off my duff and getting on with my life after losing my hubby of 44 years in 1999. I went to Aussie in 2004 but alas Andy did not win. Hope to get to Wimby some day. Andy Fan forever, Marianne Jenks”

Marianne was in Memphis last week, and was naturally disappointed that Andy lost, but she is already planning her next trip – to Mission Hills in April for DC. Let’s hope Marianne brings Andy some more luck as the USA face Chile!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to enter. If you have already e-mailed us you do not need to re-enter, we will consider all the entries afresh for March and every other month of the year. We look forward to reading about many more of Andy’s fans!
