Andy Roddick is set to take on Julien Benneteau(FRA) in the quarterfinals tonight on Stadium Court, not before 6:30pm EST, at the RMK Championships in Memphis. Benneteau defeated Xavier Malisse (BEL) last night in straight sets; 7-6(4), 6-4 to meet Andy again for the second time this year.
Their prior meeting was one month ago at the Australian Open when Andy dismissed the Frenchman 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, and the two now will face off again with the AO match still fresh in their minds. Andy also won their first encounter at the 2004 AMS in Montreal, holding the lead at 2-0. Benneteau is better known for his doubles play, but recently reached his highest singles ranking at number 61 at the end of 2005. Benneteau is a few months older than Andy and both prefer to play on hard courts, so the “A” games should be out in full form this evening.
Here are more statistics on Benneteau:
Birthdate: 20-Dec-81
Birthplace: Bourg en Bresse, France
Residence: Boulogne Billancourt, France
Height: 6′1′’ (185 cm)
Weight: 154 lbs (70 kg)
Plays: Right-handed
Turned Pro: 2000
Since Andy had a match-free day yesterday, he’s rested and ready to serve some fireballs, slam some forehands, and spice-up some volleys.
