Young Briton Upsets Roddick

The British youngster, Andy Murray, has further proven his potential by
defeating number one seed, Andy Roddick in the semi finals of the SAP Open in
San Jose. Murray closed out a tight two sets victory 7-5, 7-5.

Roddick started out the stronger, holding his serve more comfortably and had two
chances to break Murray’s serve at 3-2, but was unable to crack the Scotsman.
The match continued on serve until 5-5, when Murray drew first blood,
breaking Roddick. The British star, then firmly set his stakes in the match, by
serving out the set at love.

The two players exchanged breaks before the second set was leveled at 3-3.
Things looked bleak for the American, when he went down 0-40 on his serve at
4-4. Showing true Roddick fighting spirit, he clawed his way out of the game to take a
5-4 lead. Murray had another chance at the Roddick service at 5-5 and this time the Scotsman capitalized, as he broke last year’s champion to put himself one game away from the final.

The last game was filled with drama, as it see-sawed between match point and break point. On his second match point, Murray displayed nerves of steel as he closed out the local favorite.

For Andy’s next challenge, he will fly east to Memphis, for the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships next week.
