Andy Ready for a Fourth Round Scorcher

With temperatures set to soar this weekend, fans will be eagerly anticipating a sizzling clash between the number two seed and the gutsy Marcos Baghdatis as they fight for a place in the quarterfinals.

“It’s going to be my hot chicks against his sweaty dudes”, Andy declared after defeating Benneteau. Andy has been drawing the crowds all week, impressing the Aussies with his aggressive match play. This Sunday should be no different, although Andy may have to do without his bikini-clad supporters from Minnesota. The energetic students are set to head back to the US before Sunday’s match. Baghdatis has a cheering squad of his own, who will be sure to keep the atmosphere electric.

Baghdatis has had an exciting run thus far, taking out the number 17 seed in the second round, in a thrilling five set rollercoaster. By making it to the fourth round, Baghdatis has equaled his performance here last year, where he bowed out to Roger Federer in the round of 16.

Andy has been doing some scouting of his opponent from Cyprus: “I’ve seen him play a little bit. I watched his match against Stepanek the other day. Solid player. He’s not going to give you anything. Returns well, runs well. He hits some good passing shots. He’s uh, maybe a little bit similar to Nalbandian, you know, in the way he plays. He’s tough. He’s going to come and he’s going to compete.”

Here are some stats on Baghdatis courtesy of the ATP:

Birthdate: 17-Jun-85
Birthplace: Lima Sol, Cyprus
Residence: Lima Sol, Cyprus
Height: 6′0′’ (182 cm)
Weight: 177 lbs (80 kg)
Plays: Right-handed
Turned Pro: 2003
Career High INDESIT ATP Entry Ranking - Singles: 52 (1/9/2006)
Career High ATP Entry Ranking - Doubles: 330 (1/9/2006)

Andy is scheduled to play on Rod Laver Arena, third match on beginning Sunday at 11 am (Australian) Saturday at 7 pm (Eastern.)

Good luck Andy!
