Wednesday, Andy takes on his first tournament of the 2006 season in Kooyong, Melbourne, Australia. The AAMI Classic invitational will be a prime stage for Andy to gear up his game heading into the Australian Open. The loaded field of Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Guillermo Coria, David Nalbandian, Ivan Ljubicic, Nicolas Kiefer, Tommy Haas and Gael Monfils, reads like a ‘whose who’ in tennis, and Andy is ready to top that list.
Last year, Federer clinched the AAMI Classic with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Andy. Following the match, Andy joked with the media about keeping tight lipped on his future tennis strategies. “You know, the last thing I’m going to do is anything that I did learn, talk about it right away so he (Federer) can read it in the papers tomorrow. But it’s good, it’s nice getting to play Roger in a situation like this where you can kind of try things and work the ball around where it’s not for a Wimbledon title or something like that. So I’m not going to tell you anything.”
Although a lot has changed this past year, we still expect Andy will be similarly playful and rarely coy with the media in 2006
