“I’m excited to play again in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex,” says Andy Roddick. “The last time I played in Dallas Pete (Sampras) and I had a great match and the fans were packed to the rafters. Battling against Taylor will be tough. We played a tight match three weeks ago in Paris and I am looking forward to another battle back in Texas.”
Dent, who has defeated three Top 10 players this year (Lleyton Hewitt,
David Nalbandian and Marat Safin) returns to Dallas where he last played in the USTA Challenger at T-Bar-M. “I look forward to returning to Texas where it’s always a challenge to play Andy,” says Dent. “We had a great match a couple of weeks ago in Paris. I had him on the ropes, but didn’t close it out. I look forward to teeing it up with Andy in Dallas”.
In addition to the Roddick versus Dent match, tennis fans will be treated to three shootout tiebreakers to start the evening. The first breaker will feature Dallas Pro Tennis Association Professionals from Brookhaven Country Club,
T-Bar-M Racquet Club, Canyon Creek Country Club and the Four Seasons Resort. This will be followed by the USTA Texas Section Wheelchair Athletes Tiebreaker Shootout. The final tiebreaker will feature top players from the University of Texas and Texas A&M University.
“This will be a great night of world class tennis and family entertainment,” says Tim Stallard, event producer and president of PROLINK Sports and Entertainment. “Andy came up with the idea to play on December 17 just a couple of weeks ago. He is donating 100 percent of his fee to help sponsor the ITF Junior Tennis Circuit. Taylor Dent is coming in a day early to host a private function benefiting the Texas Tennis Foundation and the National Junior Tennis League, an Arthur Ashe legacy program. Both of these athletes are blessed and give back to the game,” says Stallard.
