Although this year’s champions have yet to be crowned, preparations are already underway for the 2006 Davis Cup tournament. The draw was made in Paris today, Thursday, September 29, and the USA received a home tie against Romania.

Playing in front of a home crowd will be a big boost to the US team, in addition to the heavy advantage of choosing the court surface. The tie will take place on February 10th-12th, 2006 at a venue to be determined.

After defeating Belgium last weekend, the US secured their place in the world group for next year. The Romanian team, including Pavel and Hanescu made it to the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup this year, before losing to Croatia.

The USA has been placed in the bottom half of the draw, along with this year’s finalists The Slovak Republic, Russia and France.
