All Eyes On Andy

In the first of the reverse singles matches Sunday, Andy will take on Belgian number one, Olivier Rochus. Should Andy win the match, it would secure USA’s place back in the World Group Davis Cup Competition for 2006. Following the Bryan’s victory, the US team only has to win one singles match on Sunday to secure the win in the Play-Off. Andy will have the first opportunity to clinch the win for team USA.

Rochus is a very dangerous opponent and proved the damage he could cause on Friday against James Blake. However, Olivier played in the four set doubles match against the Bryans, which makes Andy the more rested of the two heading into Sunday. After his doubles match Rochus commented, “I’m playing a Top 5 player who was No. 1 (Roddick). We have nothing to lose. This is good. I can try to play a good match and enjoy it. You never know.”

Rochus’ stats in Davis Cup are fairly even, having won eight and lost nine, whereas Andy has a very resounding 16-6 record. Andy has the confidence of a winning record over the Belgin as he won their only meeting two years ago in Switzerland.

All eyes will be on Andy tomorrow. These are the pressure filled moments that great players dream of and with the American bench behind him, Andy will be fighting to win the tie for America and bring team USA back where they belong. Play begins at 12:30pm local time, 6:30am Eastern Time.

Go USA!
