Andy Takes Out Hewitt

In addition to reaching his second US Open Series final, Andy displayed how far his game has developed this past year, taking out third seed Lleyton Hewitt 6-4, 7-6(4) in a little over an hour and a half. This is the second time in eight meetings that Andy has defeated Hewitt. Following Montreal, both Coach Dean Goldfine and Andy were vocal about their high expectations for Cincy, and surely those expectations were met tonight.

As anticipated, the semifinal match was decided by only a few points. In the first set, Andy converted one of two break opportunities to take the set 6-4. He brilliantly saved three break points to stay on serve, frustrating a tenacious Hewitt. Staying true to form, Andy fired 12 aces in the first set alone.

Unwilling to budge, both players held serve in the second. At the beginning of the eighth game, Andy had accomplished an astonishing 90 percent points won on his first serve. The second set moved quickly into a tiebreak where a few mini breaks gave Andy the tie break and the semifinal victory 6-4, 7-6 (4)

This win gives Cincy a blockbuster final. As the much anticipated rivalry continues, Andy will face World #1, Roger Federer, in the finals tomorrow. Federer overcame Ginepri 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 to reach the final of the first tournament he has played since his Wimbledon championships.
