The Rogers Cup draw has been released and Andy is set to take on Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu. Hot off his European domination, Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal was awarded top billing, followed by second seed, newlywed Lleyton Hewitt. Andy received the third seed and sits comfortably in his quarter of the draw.
The 2004 Rogers Cup champion, Roger Federer, has opted for an extended break before the US Open, and will not be returning to defend his title. This is the first US Open series tournament that truly illustrates the depth of men’s tennis. Even without Federer and Safin, the Rogers Cup is stacked with an able international field.
So far, the Americans have swept the US Open Series; Ginepri took Indy, Agassi clinched Los Angeles, and Andy dominated in D.C. The bar will be raised in Canada, with little room for error. Agassi returns to play this week, joining Andy in leading the American crew.
