Prior to his doubles match today, Andy had a knock up on the practice courts at 4.00pm. Sporting his new Lacoste gear, Andy practised for just an hour, but drew in many crowds of people to the stands, many of whom were shouting, “Andy! Andy!”
Andy did the usual drills with basic ground strokes, volleys and smashes. He also tried out an excellent clay court tactic: the drop shot. After one failed attempt, Andy finally nailed it, and fist pumped the air to show his approval.
After about half an hour, Andy then started to hit with his trainer, Doug Spreen. AR.com can happily report that Doug will be sticking to his day job! Andy eased up in this lighthearted practice, celebrating when he lobbed Doug and shouting in despair when Doug sent a forehand whistling past him.
.
Following the practice, Andy caused a riot amongst the fans watching, by sending two balls into the crowd. The first one missed, and the second one landed just short of the stands, causing three kids to vault the gate and scuffle between them as to who got the ball.
Stay tuned to AR.com for a report on Andy’s doubles match later.
