Andy Through To Houston Semis

The skies were overcast this morning in Houston, but shortly before Andy’s match, the sun came out over Gallery Furniture Stadium.

Andy had one of his best matches on clay here today, defeating Luis Horna of Peru in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 in just 57 minutes. According to Andy’s coach, Dean Goldfine, “The training and timing really paid off. Andy looks really strong on the court and is moving extremely well.”

There were no breaks of serve in the first set until the ninth and final game, when Andy broke Horna to take the first set 6-4.

Andy opened the second set as well. He faced two break points in the crucial part of the match, but managed to use good footwork to dig himself out of trouble.

Overall, it was a great serving day, allowing Andy to serve and volley comfortably.

At 2-1, Andy earned a break point, and with a forehand winner, earned a 3-1 lead. He followed with a hold at love to up 4-1. Horna committed three errors to go down triple break point in the next game, but managed to save two before he netted a forehand to give Andy a 5-1 lead and a chance to serve out the match.

Four points needed and four aces were all that was necessary in the last game. A 6-4, 6-1 win in less than one hour sends Andy to his fifth semifinal here. Tomorrow he takes on Jurgen Melzer who defeated defending champ Tommy Haas earlier today.

They will play the second match on after a12:30 start, but not before 3 pm.(CDT)

Go Andy!
